By no means are the topics laid out here the first or only things we need to target to eliminate corporate and political corruption in America, but it would be a great start.

Citizens United

The Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission (FEC) case was a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court in 2010. The case centered around a political action committee (PAC) called Citizens United, which had produced a film critical of Hillary Clinton, then a candidate for President of the United States.

The FEC ruled that the film constituted a "campaign expenditure" under the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) of 2002, which restricted the use of corporate funds for political speech. Citizens United challenged the FEC's ruling, arguing that the BCRA violated their First Amendment rights to free speech.

In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Citizens United, holding that corporations and unions have the same First Amendment rights as individuals when it comes to political speech. The Court found that the BCRA's restrictions on corporate and union expenditures in political campaigns violated the First Amendment's protection of free speech.
