Attending therapy, especially the first appointment can be intimidating, scary, and an overload to your emotional state.

The intake: is what we call the first appointment. This appointment is very unique. you come in to take a seat and within a few minutes there is a quick introduction to a person you never meet and you have to dump your whole life story on them. Asking very specific questions we are looking for mood, affect, impact to your daily and biological functioning as well as any signs of various diagnosis and suggestions of suicidal homicidal thoughts or feelings as well as a host of other perspectives.

Knowing you are being analyzed, by a pro or not as intimidating.

so, let's help you take back some of that fear and put the ball in your court.

The questions I have included below are important to ask your therapist, not to challenge them or in some deceive them but to build insight into who is helping you and how the relationship may develop.

When you go to therapy and ask these questions, it will show that you are serious about your mental health and ready to do some work.

  1. What's your theoretical perspective?
